Italy – World’s best Pasta
Reflecting on Italy, Giuseppe Verdi said: “You may have the universe if I may have Italy.” Italy is known for many things but the best food and wine is among the first that come to mind. In particular, pasta is one of the most popular dishes throughout the world, and Italy is the best destination for it. It is loved for its simplicity, the ease of making and the tasty infusion of flavors. But as hard as we all try to make the yummiest pasta, nothing will ever beat the pasta dishes made in Italy. Seeing as it a tradition dish for Italians and eaten almost daily, there is no wonder that the pasta there is superior to all the rest.
Dry Rainbow Pasta
Pasta is mainly made from durum wheat, water and occasionally eggs. Pasta made without eggs normally comes in dried form. This type of pasta is the most common through the world because of easy storage and long shelf life; dry pasta can store for up to two years. Most fresh pasta is made with eggs and will only last a few days in the fridge. Italian families use both types of pasta; it all depends on the other ingredients.
The shapes and varieties of Pasta fall into six main categories; long pasta (spaghetti), short pasta (penne, farfalle, fusilli), minute pasta (risoni, grattoni), egg pasta (tagliatelle), pasta al forno (lasagna, cannelloni) and fresh pasta.
Simple tomato pasta in Southern Italy
Pasta in Italy changes region from region. The Northern Italy regions tend to cook more white sauce dishes like carbornara and alfredo sauces. Southern Italy is more known for their tomato sauces. Tomatoes are normally mixed with oil, herbs, seafood and olives to create simple yet tasty dishes. Vegetables are also more commonly seen in Southern Italy pasta dishes where the warmer climate creates are more favorable growing environment for fresh ingredients.
As Pasta has spread from Italy throughout the world, different influences and available ingredients have changed and adapted the tradition dishes. Some people see this as not “proper” pasta dishes, but each country will naturally change the recipes to cater for their personal tastes and ingredients. And that is the beauty of pasta; it goes well with so many different flavors and styles. It’s no surprise it is a worldly favorite at the dinner table.
